Spring Break Getaway

We are headed out tomorrow for a Spring Break vacation.

We'll be stopping here 1st...

The beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast

Can't wait to visit family and enjoy some of the delicacies....
gumbo, po-boys, and crawfish to name a few.

After a few days in Mississippi, we're driving to Destin, Florida for a little more coastal time.

Hope you're having some sunshine to welcome spring wherever you are!

e.a.t. and a gallery wall

I've always wanted a little something over this doorway in our kitchen.

And, now I have it!

I purchased some inexpensive 5x5 frames, ran some burlap
through the printer and voila!

Another quickie project this week was a gallery wall in our powder room.

We're headed south for Spring Break and I'm hoping to find some
other 'trinket' to replace the starfish inside the large frame.

Have you been working on any projects this week, small or large?

Animal Print Mirror

I've had several posts  lately about my daughter's bedroom update.

The last tweak to the room was adding duck tape to her mirror.  It needed a little something.

Easiest project ever!

What 12 yo girl doesn't like a little zebra in her bedroom?
(I do look forward to the day when her tastes are a little more subdued :)

Energy Bites

A friend shared this recipe with me over the weekend.  We were chaperoning our girls at their last Girl Scout Cookie Booth Sale and she thought of these because they're similar to a Samoa GS cookie in taste, but a little healthier.

Energy Bites

1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup honey
1 cup coconut flakes
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla

Mix everything above in a medium bowl until thoroughly incorporated.

Let chill in the refrigerator for half an hour.

Once chilled, roll into balls and enjoy!

Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 1 week.

That picture makes me want a glass of milk!

Hope you'll try them ~

Went back to my youth over the weekend!

Saturday night we went to a 40th birthday party that started out with dinner/drinks and moved onto...

ROLLER SKATING!!!

If you enjoyed roller skating as a kid, I highly recommend going again...

SO MUCH FUN!

Hope your week is off to a good start....even if you're a little
tired like me with the time change!

Pops of Pink

Not only did my daughter get a new desk over the weekend, but some "pops of pink" in the room too.   Her main request when re-doing her room, back in December, was to incorporate this teal blue color from her bedding.

The blue was done in the walls, the curtains, and many of the accessories.
(There's that newly assembled desk!)

The room was begging for a little pop of pink, similar to that in the bedding.  So, I made a cork board out of an old frame and some cork squares.

I cut the squares with an exacto knife, fit them in the frame, and added the cardboard back that came with the frame.

Next came the fun part.....hot pink spray paint!

And, of course, the hot pink needed to be balanced on the other side of the room, so I tweaked some art work we had hanging.

These prints started out like this (I had previously added the small pink dots on the leaves).  They each have a word on them...inspire, create, and breathe.

More pictures of the room...

(I have to admit, the room is a little busy for me, but 12 year old girls like a lot of stuff.)

Epic Fail (as the kids say)

In December, I was working on updating my daughter's room with a new paint color, updating some furniture, etc... see here.

The white desk above started out looking like this.  Before I could paint it, I had to fill in this crack.

Add some white paint, accessorize, and done...

Until a couple of months later and...the crack split all the way to the end of the desk...epic fail!

There's a stamp on the back of the desk that says October 1969.  I'm assuming this desk is almost as old as me....I have a few cracks too :)

We picked up this desk at Target over the weekend, and my husband and I spent Sunday afternoon assembling it.  Good times!

Have you had any project "fails" lately?

Goodbye February - Don't Let the Door Hit Ya...

I usually don't have anything against the month of February, but this year I'm happy to see it go.

February began for me with what I believe was the Noro Virus.  When I say awful stomach thing, I mean A-W-F-U-L, and it took a good week to bounce back! I'm usually tougher than that?!

Next came mice in our house (I cringe just typing that).  There's nothing worse than seeing those disgusting little pellets they leave behind, in this case under our kitchen sink, (well maybe the Noro Virus?).  My husband said he'd get right on it when he got home from work....I couldn't wait.  Pest control to the rescue!  They've made several visits, and have sealed every opening in our crawl space, leaving traps down there for "anybody" who didn't get out in time.  So far, so good!

And to finish out the month, JURY DUTY.  I have to admit, I haven't had jury duty since some time in the 90's, so this wasn't completely unfair.  I was hoping not to be selected but, of course, I was called in the 1st round.  It actually only took 2 full days, but it was completely exhausting.  It's emotionally draining listening to all the testimony and deciding the outcome of someone's future.  It was a DUI/assault case.  No fun!

So.....Welcome March!

It's good to see you...
