We had our downstairs floors re-done in December click here.
I love the floors but they have a lot of red in them which made our
red sofa, red kitchen chairs, red walls (opposite wall from this picture) etc,
a little too much red for me to live with.

First thing we did was paint the walls in the family room. They went from a
golden yellow to a chocolate brown, and we moved the red sofa upstairs to the bonus room. The curtains got a re-vamp too...see below.

We purchased a new sofa in khaki and a new rug to lighten up the room. I also took
down the gold/plaid curtains I had made and kept about 15" of the fabric to add
to some cream colored, store bought, curtains from Target.
My goal is to have the rooms be more
neutral with browns and creams.

Next project was the adjacent kitchen table.
Went from black to cream colored.

The room looked good before and looks even better now. Love the brown walls. Looks a lot like my bedroom wall color. Those are nice chairs. When you see the price of one chair you may want to keep those. I don't know why chairs cost so much. You could paint them a dark brown or do the cream on them, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful-PAINT THE CHAIRS!!! I can only say that since I just did 9 of mine...simular style too. Love to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteYour house just gets beautiful-er and beautiful-er....you know what I mean!
ReplyDeleteI say paint the chairs. ;o)
Love the new living room! The old one was pretty too, but those chocolate walls are just yummy and make it so cozy!!! I love that rug! Is it Pottery Barn? It all just goes so nicely! I say paint those chairs! I think the chocolate brown color would be beautiful! Or maybe even that pale sagey green that is in the rug. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done for change!! I do think all that red would've been too much with those beautiful floors!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with for the chairs!
ReplyDeleteMmm, I love your chocolate brown - so rich and inviting! The curtains are very clever too.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to add my vote for painting the chairs :)
Beautiful!!!! I have those same yellow walls....now you have me thinking....I love the brown.:)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the warmth of the whole space. LOVE, LOVE that rug!
ReplyDeleteWhat great transformations! I LOVE the red chairs but I love red anything...not too much red in my world, lol! What about a nice earthy green color?
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

I LOVE your house! The family room walls are gorgeous..love the paint change. The table looks great too. I'd paint the chairs, even though it can be a tedious job.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your living room! The layout if very similar to mine so you've given me some great ideas on how to arrange and decorate the space. That wall color is fantastic. Love it all! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like what your updates, Petie. Love your beautiful new flooring. Our kitchen/family room has golden oak hardwood and beige Berber (much like your before shots) beginning to show it's age. We also have an enormous cherry red couch (with whom I have a love/hate relationship), so I'm taking notes! ThanX for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower. Wow! I just love your style. Your living room looked gorgeous before but I love the new look! We have the same sofa : )
