Pumpkin Carving

I love my kids, but I do not like carving pumpkins....

They always have big ideas for the designs, and they expect mom and dad to pull it off......not!

They will help clean out the pumpkin "guts", but they get tired of the
muscle work that is involved in the actual carving.

This is what we came up with!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween Par-tay!

My daughter is off to her 1st Halloween Party tonight.

She's going as Google, or maybe she's a laptop?

I think at 11 (almost 12 and going on 14), it's more about the fedora hat?!

We ironed white lining material to freezer paper to print everything.  Basically, you iron the paper (sticky side up) to the material and cut it out in sheet sizes of 8 1/2 x 11, then carefully run it through the printer.

We'll see what the majority of the party-goers thought she was when she returns home tonight.

I'm partying with
Overflowing With Creativity at It's Overflowing

Have a great weekend!

Desk Love

Re-doing our home office is on my project list, and I'm thinking about a parsons style desk.

Here's some great inspiration...

Or maybe a sawhorse style desk...

Kids are out of school the next couple of days, so all project ideas are on hold for now.

Hope you're having a great week!

Halloween costumes from the past ~

I took a walk down "Halloween" memory lane over the weekend!

Please excuse the sofa.  That belonged to my husband
when we got married (and, yes, I still married him :)

Today, my daughter would probably not agree to be Buzz Light Year!

Ahh, the princess phase.  Do all 4 and 5 year old girls go through this?

My son was (and still is) a huge fan of the croc hunter!

My daughter looks a little scared of "croc hunter" here?!

The next year, still in the princess phase.....and croc hunter :)

By kindergarten, she updated to a ballerina!

Couldn't find my sons pic from this year :(

This was the beginning of the American Idol craze!

And, the "football craze" for my son!

I got in on the action this year too :)

By the next year, the "football craze" had influenced my daughter.
(My husband went to the University of Alabama.....roll tide!)

And, the scary began...

Here, my son is the scary jester on the left, and my daughter, the Survivor contestant on the right.

And, last year, the "Emily In The Box".

I've finished my daughter's costume for this year.  I just need to get her in it for a picture.
My son is 14 now and will probably throw something on at the last minute
(because that's what 14 year old boys do).

Have you taken a peek at costumes past?

Northwest Fall

The weather man said today is our last sunny day for awhile.  Here in the NW that means time to pull out the boots and rain jackets (and long johns if you're sitting at any sporting events), old towels to wipe the dogs wet paws, and the vitamin D.

But we truly do have some breath taking foliage happening!
Maybe it's all worth it :)

Off to work in the yard while the sun is shining.

Have a great weekend!

Master Bedroom

A "Show Us Your Bedrooms" party is going on over at Thrifty Decor Chick, and I'm not one to miss a party so......here's our master bedroom.

The sign below is something I made a few years ago by printing the words on the computer, tracing them on fabric with carbon paper (remember that stuff?), and filling in with black sharpie.

Our sleigh bed is about 20 years old.

I'm pretending this is where I sit quietly with my morning coffee while the kids get themselves ready for school....not :)

I bought this mirror recently at Home Goods....I'm trying to decide if it's going to stay that color?

Growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and now living near the Oregon Coast, I'm partial to anything beach related.  These prints were another Home Goods purchase a few years ago.

We have a balcony off the master, but unfortunately it doesn't get used very much.

Nap time?

I'm joining the "Show Us Your Bedrooms" party at Thrifty Decor Chick.
Hope you'll stop by!

Could you leave these at the thrift store?

Last week I stopped in the local thrift store looking for books and whatever else caught my eye.  (You know how that is.)

I came across several books that I liked for their size, age, color, and, of course, interesting content!  I enjoy a good book, but these were going to be used mainly for decorative purposes, and they were 50% off!

I was struck when I opened a couple of them by the sentimental writing in the covers.  How sweet!

And, the age of some of these books.  1934!

I'm not sure I could just leave a book, or anything else for that matter, that had a direct note written to me in it....even if it just says "to" and "from".  I would probably have to cover the note somehow.  I have a hard time taking my kids old sports uniforms to the Goodwill because our last name is usually on it.

I feel kind of lucky to have these books.  The original recipient must have meant a lot to the "giver" of the books for them to have taken the time to address a note.

Hope your week is off to a good start!

I'm joining the Nifty Thrifty Tuesday party over at Coastal Charm.
